Embodiment and Expression | Workshop by Mavin Khoo – In Residence
Thank you for your interest in the workshop. Registrations are now closed. We hope to see you at the rest of the programs as part of the residency.
As part of In Residence, G5A opens the Black Box to a series of workshops shaped by Mavin’s ongoing practice. These sessions create space for shared learning, attention, and exploration.
An immersive workshop exploring how theatre and dance can be used to interrogate identity, embodiment, and personal narrative.
Acclaimed choreographer and performer Mavin Khoo leads this session exploring the intersections of theatre, dance and identity. Drawing on his wide-ranging experience across classical Indian dance, contemporary performance and theatre-making, Khoo invites participants – both dancers and non-dancers – to examine how movement, voice, memory and presence shape the stories we tell on stage and about ourselves.
Through guided movement, theatrical exercises and reflective discussion, the workshop will provide a space to probe tradition, authorship and the performing self, while encouraging participants to connect lived experience with artistic expression. The emphasis is on curiosity, listening and exploration rather than technique alone.
The workshop is open to dancers, actors, theatre-makers, students and non-dancers alike. The aim is to deepen artistic practice, challenge habitual modes of expression, and discover new ways of inhabiting the self through performance.

G5A produces and co-creates interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work that is bold, experimental, and just.
In Residence, a production series, creates space for practitioners to explore their craft, form, and expression to consistently and rigorously refine their practice. Each production is hosted over an extended duration at the warehouse, enabling work that is multidisciplinary and grounded in traditional and contemporary performance methods.
